mirror.ac.za problems
I have always been a really big fan of mirror.ac.za right since they started out; however the last while I am honestly very disappointed with them.
Firstly, they used to have a brilliant OpenBSD mirror at openbsd.mirror.ac.za but now both the HTTP and FTP are empty and that really sucks. What happened, guys?
Secondly, what's up with php.mirror.ac.za? According to mirror.ac.za it was synchronised yesterday but the latest version of PHP on there is still 5.2.2 and we've been at 5.2.3 for a long time already.
Maybe somebody over there needs to check the update scripts? :)
Update: It is indeed a temporary problem and they're aware of it now - please see the comments. Looking forward to seeing it back up and running. :)

Charl,
I'm kind of disappointed, as I had no indication of problems before this blog entry was posted. To complain in a blog rather than first having the courtesy of emailing admin@mirror.ac.za is not a good way to get things fixed. To maintain a large public mirror that does the kind of traffic mirror.ac.za does is never a simple thing, it requires manpower and resources, something that we attempt to provide to the best of our abilities. But it must be understood, occasionally problems with arise, and occasionally, we will slip up and miss them. A simple email pointing them out would generally serve to get them fixed however, rather than having to get pointed to a blog entry on IRC.
Just my 2c

Hi Andrew,
Ok, I have to apologise. I think I intended the blog post tongue-in-the-cheek to a certain extent but now that I read it again I have to agree that it does sound rather offensive. I did not know you were the person behind this as I already have your mail address and would have therefore contacted you first.
However, just a suggestion: I did search for an e-mail address on mirror.ac.za but didn't find any and there's a lot of detail on tenet.ac.za that's not relevant to mirror.ac.za at all. I'm sure that if you place a "please report faults to so-and-so" on the front page of mirror.ac.za you'll get very good fault logging response.
Thanks for your response to my post and in future if I do notice anything wrong I will let you know directly via e-mail.
Regards,
Charl

Hi Andrew,
Just another note - even on tenet.ac.za there doesn't seem to be any obvious contact section including an e-mail address - in these cases blogging is the best way to get these things sorted unfortunately.
Regards,
Charl
